While both are common forms of injectables, each treatment helps to achieve different results. A botulinum injection, more commonly known as Botox or Dysport, is made from a strain of a particular botulinum bacteria. The neurotoxins derived during the processing are purified and prepared for safe usage.
Once injected into the desired area, the toxin enters the muscle, forcing it to return to a relaxed state. While in this relaxed state, which can last anywhere from 3-4 months, the skin covering these muscles flatten and will naturally smooth, refreshing your look and keeping those muscles from forming new wrinkles and lines while the neurotoxin is activated.
Botulinum injection results are most beneficial in areas where wrinkles commonly form, such as the forehead, temples, eyes, and mouth. However, here at Transformed we also offer Botulinum injections for TMJ relief, hyperhidrosis, neck pain, and many other advanced treatment areas.
On the other hand, dermal fillers, including Restylane®, are gel-like substances made of hyaluronic acid (HA). Because hyaluronic acid is already readily available in the body, it is able to attract water molecules to bond to it, leading to an increase in volume and fullness within the desired area.
Common areas for dermal fillers include regions of the face where volume has been lost, such as lips, cheeks, temples, jawline, and the nasolabial folds. There are also other fillers which are biostimulators, such as Sculptra, whose role is a little different from the standard practice of dermal fillers. Biostimulatory fillers stimulate the body’s own production of collagen in order to restore the skin’s fullness and create long-term volume results.
