Injectables And Fillers

Transformed Aesthetic and Wellness Center

Aesthetic & Wellness Center located in Frederick, MD

Injectables and dermal fillers, known as ‘liquid facelifts’, are incredibly popular cosmetic treatments at Transformed Med Spa of Frederick. Injectables such as Dysport, Botox, and Restylane can help to alleviate imperfections which tend to give away our age. Facial wrinkles and the loss of volume in lips, temples and cheeks are common effects of aging, but injectables and fillers are fast, affordable and non-invasive ways of making us look more youthful and feel more confident.

Injectables and Fillers Q & A

Is a botulinum injection different than a dermal filler?

Yes. A botulinum injection, such as BOTOX® or Dysport®, are solutions made from a strain of a particular botulinum toxin.

When your technician injects you with botulinum, the toxin enters your muscles and forces them to relax. Your skin covering these muscles flatten and smooth naturally.

These injections are beneficial in areas where you have wrinkles caused by frequent facial movements, like between your eyes (frown lines).

Dermal fillers, including Restylane®, are formularies made of hyaluronic acid. This naturally occurring sugar — already found in your skin — attracts water molecules, which leaves your skin plumper and fuller.

Which type of injectable do I need?

Whether you need botulinum injections or dermal fillers depends on your treatment area. Your skin gradually loses its elasticity as you age because collagen breaks down, and your body just doesn’t produce as much of it. So for areas with visibly less volume, like your cheeks or around your mouth, you may benefit from a dermal filler.

For areas with deep grooves left behind by muscle contractions from frequent facial muscles, such as across your forehead or between your eyes, botulinum injections offer a better solution. Some clients need both types of injections.

When you visit the spa for a consultation, your practitioner will customize a treatment plan to match your skincare needs.

How long do botulinum injections and dermal fillers last?

Botulinum injections, like BOTOX and Dysport, typically give you lasting results for about four months. For fine lines, your smoother skin may show longer. But for deep grooves, your treatments might not last as long.

Dermal fillers last for a more extended period, usually from 9-12 months. If your practitioner suggests getting both types of injections, it’s likely that you’re going to need botulinum injections more frequently than dermal filler injections.

What is the Botox Lip Flip?

The Botox Lip Flip is the latest trend in injectables for shaping the lips to create the perfect pout. During this procedure, a very small amount of Botox is injected into the muscles around the upper lip, which weakens the muscles around the mouth that cause the lips to turn inward over time. The Lip Flip reshapes the lip, increasing the pink portion of the lip while providing the illusion of a fuller lip, without the added volume.

The cost is $100 and the effects last about six weeks. The procedure is relatively low-risk; there is potential for minor bruising or swelling that resolves quickly.

Appointments for injectables and fillers typically take less than 15 minutes, so you can schedule your appointment over your lunch break. Call the spa or use the online booking feature to schedule.
